BIOGRAPHY

My early work focused on animals. Growing up surrounded by livestock, drawing was constant. That close observation — of form, texture and subtle expression —shaped the discipline that still underpins my work today.

In recent years, my focus has shifted toward including the landscape.

I spend much of my time walking and hiking across the British Isles, often in rain, wind, mist or shifting cloud. I’m drawn to transitional light — the weight of weather before a storm, the quiet of low cloud over moorland, the softness of snow or drifting mist. These are the conditions that feel lived.

I work primarily in oil on aluminium. The smooth surface allows me to build structure with precision while still creating atmosphere through subtle blending and edge control. Over time I’ve developed a restrained palette. Limiting colour forces clarity and discipline, allowing tone and light to carry the painting rather than spectacle.  I am currently experimenting with new surfaces which is a very rewarding, even though it tests my patience!

My work is held in private collections internationally and has been recognised by organisations including the ARC Salon and the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year.
